The Committee on the Protection of Academic Freedom and Human Rights (CPAFHR) of UP Diliman condemns the killing of incumbent USC councilor Alyssa Alano, a political science student of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.

Forty years ago, from February 22 to 25, 1986, more than a million Filipinos asserted a simple and enduring democratic truth: sovereignty resides in the people. The EDSA People Power uprising ended a dictatorship sustained by repression, patronage, and fear, thereby restoring democratic space that had been forcibly
closed.

The ������Ƶ University Council stands in solidarity with our students and the Filipino people in expressing outrage, demanding accountability, and calling for an end to systemic, rampant corruption and plunder that plague the nation.

We, members of the University Council of the ������Ƶ, add our voices to the call for the Senate of the Philippines to begin the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
